DEVLOG 9 "What Do Prototypes Prototype?"

  • What type of prototype is example 2, and why? What type of prototype is example 10, and why? What kind of prototype are you making for the final project, and why?

Example 2 is a high-fidelity model with lots of 'look-and-feel' to it. I say high fidelity because of the program that was used.  Macromedia Director is seen as a high level animation and scripting tool. It has lots of look-and-feel because of its clear 3D modeling that gives the viewer a clear idea on how big it dimensions are, and how it will sit and look in a 3D space.

Example 10 would be considered a low-fidelity model with also lots of look-and-feel to it. Low-fidelity because of the prototype itself: its a pizza box, something fairly simple to acquire and use compared to other, more advanced programs. It at the same time has lots of look-and-feel to it from the simple way it demonstrates how a computer might weigh and be carried in day to day real life.

Our group is making a 3D prototype that would probably fit more along the lines of implementation, but still carry look-and-feel as well as role. We right now are dealing with functionality of mechanics within their own space rather than the fine tunings of how they would feel, or if they would solve any present issues, so implementation would be our closest bet.
