DEVLOG 3 “Messing Around in 3D Studio R4”

  • Why do you think the user make renders at 2:22 and 3:18? Why do you think we don’t regularly make renders when working in Blender today?

Because that would take too much time with the Blender now, with the specific models we’re making. In 3DS R4, they were simply using the basic structure of the object, the wireframe, which isn’t something heavy like lighting and the actual body of the shape, like in Blender where that’s already in the scene. So a wireframe would be much easier to render than the object with lighting and materials.

  • Which functions / buttons from 3DS 4 are in Blender too? Name at least 3 similarities.

Both Blender ad 3DS 4 have some form of select tool, along with like a scaling tool and a tool to modify lighting in a 3D setting.

  • What year is 3DS 4 from? Google / name two 3D games from that year.

3DS R4 came out in 1996, and the two games that came out in that same year were Super Mario 64 (a popular answer I’m sure) and Resident Evil.

  • Google any 3D modeling tool other than Max, Maya, or Blender. What's it called? Who uses it? Would YOU want to use it?

ZBrush has been getting popular as of late, with some studios using it as their primary modeling software. I personally am using Sculptris, made by the same people who created ZBrush though not quite as advanced. I would love to use ZBrush, but unfortunately it’s quite notorious for being a hard program to get to learn, much like Maya in that regard.
